During infotour 2013 Danfoss represented as one of the four leading refrigeration technology companies that made live presentations with information about the latest developments and market trends in eight cities.

The sixth infotour was launched in Leipzig by Danfoss, BITZER, DuPont and Güntner on 14 January 2013. After Leipzig, the eight-part series of lectures on refrigeration continued in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Munich and Egerkingen (CH), finally reaching Linz (A) on 28 February. infotour 2013 opened up a dialogue between almost 1,000 registered trade visitors and four strong partners from the refrigeration market.

As one of the four market leaders, Danfoss demonstrated a variety of solutions addressing the principal topic of infotour 2013, “Tomorrow’s intelligent cooling technology today, efficient and sustainable.” The specific illustrations of the proclaimed “Advantage from knowledge” included the composite controller Danfoss AK PC 781 and 783, which handles the regulation of a cascaded composite system, plus energy-saving features such as heat recovery, optimized heat exchanger pressures in the lower and upper stages, and all the necessary oil management. This forward-looking technology (especially considering that it can use CO² as refrigerant) is thus eminently marketable for plant engineers and fitters. This controller demonstrates that expanding the control system to include additional control functions and govern the entire system opens up potential energy savings that would not be achieved by a partial control solution.

The system manager AK SC 355 is equally future-oriented: This control and monitoring solution not only handles the ordinary tasks that have to be carried out by a higher-level device (temperature monitoring as specified by HACCP and deep-freezer regulations, monitoring, alarm management, ...), but also integrates heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems into its control concept. To ensure that AK SC 355 can handle all the control tasks needed by a forecourt store or mid-range supermarket, it can monitor and regulate even heat pump circuits, complete lighting control systems and additional equipment (in-store ovens, POS systems, ...). This central control of all energy consumers makes it possible to avoid costly peak demand and coordinate the necessary control tasks.  In addition, visitors of the infotour learned about the most efficient way of filling an evaporator using an electrical expansion valve. The demonstration highlighted the differences resulting from the two usual modes of operation of such valves (pulse-width modulation and stepper motor technology) and which systems realise the greatest benefits, not least for the user, from their higher efficiency.

However, tomorrow’s challenges will not be resolved merely by using more electronic and mechatronic control solutions, we will also increasingly need to equip standard products with additional intelligence. In other words, for the packaged condensing units OPTYMA PlusTM New Generation, the future has already begun. These condensing units offer intelligent fan and crankcase heater control, and avoid failures and the resultant additional costs with integrated pressure and temperature monitors that can raise timely alerts about possible malfunctions. One thing that became eminently clear was that, at present, anyone who wants to construct a refrigeration system with such a condensing unit for outdoor use will not want to miss the OPTYMA PlusTM New Generation (which is already available from all refrigeration wholesalers).
